The NEW NHS Pharmacy First Scheme starts on Wednesday 31st January 2024.

We will be offering this service in most of our pharmacies from 31/01/24 

This new service is available to patients that need to access ADVICE or (where appropriate) TREATMENT for one of the SEVEN common conditions that Pharmacies in ENGLAND can now offer professional assistance with.

By using this service patients will be able to speak to one of our pharmacists for advice on one of the following medical conditions.

• Earache

• Impetigo

• Infected insect bite and stings

• Shingles

• Sinusitis

• Sore throat

• Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTI) in women.

Consultations will take place in a private consultation room and the pharmacist will ask you questions about your condition and where necessary use some equipment to perform a quick check of your ear / throat or visually inspect your skin,  any infected bites or stings etc.

The pharmacist will use their professional skills and judgement to make the necessary recommendations for treatment, this may sometimes just be advice or they may recommend the use of an over-the-counter remedy. In some instances the pharmacist may be able to prescribe and supply an antibiotic for you to use. If you normally pay for your NHS prescriptions you will need to pay an NHS prescription charge for any medication prescribed by the pharmacist. You would also need to pay for any medication they recommend you purchase over the counter (if you want to take their advice and use that treatment).

All you need to do is visit one of our pharmacies and ask to speak to the pharmacist. There is no appointment needed (you may just have a brief wait to speak to the pharmacist if they are already dealing with someone or dispensing a prescription)
